Fired Craig Berube
Their 2025–26 season ended in huge disappointment, as they finished 28th in the overall standings, far from a playoff spot. So far, the Maple Leafs have hired controversial executive John Chayka as general manager and Mats Sundin as a senior advisor. They also parted ways with head coach Craig Berube and are now searching for his replacement.
The Maple Leafs also got some help in their efforts to become contenders again by winning the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery. This means they will pick first in the 2026 NHL Draft. Most likely, the Leafs will select top prospect Gavin McKenna, but they could also choose Swedish prospect Ivar Stenberg.
William Nylander’s reaction to draft lottery
One of the biggest stars on the Maple Leafs is William Nylander. Known for his swagger and fashion sense, he is also nicknamed “Willie Styles.” He has his own YouTube channel where he posts updates from both his professional and personal life as an NHL superstar. In his latest episode, viewers got to see his reaction to Toronto winning the draft lottery.
The scene takes place at Coca-Cola Coliseum. Where William Nylander and Matthew Knies had gone to watch William’s brother, Alexander, play for the Toronto Marlies. When Knies and Nylander received the news about the draft lottery, Nylander couldn’t contain his emotions.
“We won the draft lottery, are you fucking kidding me?” Nylander is heard yelling.
Can’t stop laughing
Now, fans are laughing at Nylander’s reaction, saying he’s just like any normal Leafs fan.
“Love you Willy, this is someone who loves his team and city. Seeing their reaction to getting the #1 pick was pure gold,” one fan wrote.
