Sidney Crosby on his future

Currently representing Team Canada at the 2026 World Championship, Crosby recently spoke about his plans for the future, with one year remaining on his current contract.
“I’ll talk with Pat Brisson and Kyle Dubas later this summer. We’ll talk about it and do what makes sense. If it does make sense to sign for a couple of years, then we’ll do that. At the end of the day, I’m just going to do what’s best for the team. I definitely want to keep playing for as many years as possible,” Crosby told The Athletic.

Wayne Gretzky shares his opinion

Sidney Crosby has often been compared to Wayne Gretzky, widely regarded as the greatest player of all time. Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, Gretzky shared his thoughts on Crosby’s announcement that he wants to keep playing for as long as he can.
“Listen, he’s our Tom Brady. He’s our LeBron James. A guy who can still bring it at an older age. He’s not 18 anymore, he’s getting older. But Sid’s remarkable. I’d say, ‘Play as long as you wanna play. Make them tear that jersey off you.’ Because once you quit, it’s all done, right? People say to me all the time, ‘Do you miss the game?’ Of course I miss the game. The problem is I can’t play the game anymore. If I could play, I’d be out there, trust me,” Wayne Gretzky said.
