Tristan Jarry faced his former Pittsburgh Penguins teammates on Thursday, but the night didn’t go as he had hoped. He surrendered three goals in just 37 seconds during the first period as the Edmonton Oilers fell 6–2. Now, fans are all saying the same thing about Jarry’s performance.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers swapped goaltenders in December, sending Stuart Skinner to Pittsburgh and Tristan Jarry to Edmonton. On Thursday night, the two teams met, with Jarry guarding the Oilers’ net against his old team.

Three goals in 37 seconds
It was the Penguins who came out strongest, opening the scoring just 2:20 into the game. Things then unraveled quickly. Twenty-two seconds later, Anthony Mantha scored his second goal of the night, and just 15 seconds after that, Sidney Crosby made it 3–0. The Oilers never truly recovered, and the game ended in a 6–2 loss.
A disappointed Jarry spoke with reporters after the game
”You always want to beat your old team. It doesn’t matter who or when, so obviously it always means a little extra,” Jarry told NHL.com. “I think if I could keep one or two of those out early, it gives us a better fighting chance.”
Fans defend Tristan Jarry
Despite the rough start, fans were quick to defend Jarry and instead placed the blame on the skaters in front of him.
“The first two goals are all on the defense,” one fan wrote on X.
“Scary thing is that none of those were really Jarry’s fault,” another added.
“Oilers’ defensive start was atrocious—no coverage, leaving guys wide open, no backcheck,” a third commented.
Next, the Oilers will host the Washington Capitals at home.
