The St. Louis Blues had a rough night on Tuesday, losing 7–3 to the Chicago Blackhawks. After allowing his seventh goal, head coach Jim Montgomery attempted to pull goaltender Jordan Binnington. However, the Blues’ backup goalie was nowhere to be found — and fans can’t stop laughing at the bizarre situation.
Pulling a goaltender during a tough night may look harsh, but it’s often done for the good of both the player and the team. It usually happens on nights when everything seems to go in, and nothing works defensively — just like it did for the Blues.

Couldn’t find the backup goaltender
With just over seven minutes remaining, Binnington surrendered his seventh goal of the game. Montgomery decided that was enough and waved for him to come to the bench to be replaced by backup goaltender Joel Hofer. But Hofer was nowhere in sight, forcing Binnington to remain in the crease for the rest of the game. Eventually, a TV camera located Hofer standing in the tunnel.
Can’t stop laughing at Jordan Binnington
It has not been disclosed why Hofer was in the tunnel at the time, but fans on social media quickly turned the incident into a viral moment.
“I don’t know what the context is, and I know Binnington isn’t the best, but Hofer hiding is so funny,” one fan wrote on X.
“Oh my God, I think that’s hilarious!” another added.
“Hofer looks like Binnington told him he knows where his family lives if he dares to be in gear on that bench when they try to get him off the ice,” a third fan joked.
