Video of Connor Bedard refusing to sign autographs goes viral

A video of Connor Bedard has gone viral – but for the wrong reason. Many are now slamming the Chicago Blackhawks superstar for his behavior, but perhaps they were all jumping to conclusions.

Connor Bedard has had a fantastic start to the season. The 20-year-old is playing only his third NHL season, coming off a sophomore year in which he scored 67 points in 82 games, with fans hoping for just a bit more from him. But so far this season, he’s looked better, and at the moment, he’s fourth in the NHL in points, trailing only Connor McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, and Nathan MacKinnon. But now, Bedard has gone viral — unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.

Video of Connor Bedard goes viral

On Sunday, a video of Bedard started making the rounds on social media. In the post, a fan called out Bedard for how he treated fans after someone recorded him repeatedly refusing to sign an autograph. In the video, a group of people followed Bedard on the street, asking him to sign over and over again – and it took a long time before Bedard eventually gave in and signed the item, though it was clear he wasn’t happy about it.
“Connor Bedard of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks shows zero humanity to this guy in what would have taken 2 seconds to be a decent person,” the person behind the viral video said. “These sellouts are just under a lot of pressure right now, and not at peace.”

But apparently, there was more to the story, and it’s sparked quite the debate on social media. As it turned out, the people asking Connor Bedard for autographs were autograph scalpers. Their only purpose in getting the autographs was to resell them for a higher value, and while some slammed Bedard for his behavior in the video, many also defended him for treating the scalpers the way they deserved.
”Connor treats true fans really well. I’ve seen it firsthand many times. It’s these autograph-chasing resellers who cross the line, man,” Charlie Roumeliotis, a former Blackhawks insider, wrote on X.
”Autograph scalpers are some of the worst people alive. Crying at Bedard just scribbling on it,” said Mike Bartner of Bleacher Report.
”Let’s normalize players refusing to sign autographs for resellers. Good on Bedard for refusing,” a third post said.
