Toronto Maple Leafs fans furious over missed call

The Toronto Maple Leafs had a rough day at the office on Wednesday, losing 6-3 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Now, fans are furious over a missed call on a Blue Jackets goal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets won their third straight game in the only NHL matchup on Wednesday, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3. The Blue Jackets currently sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, four spots ahead of a struggling Maple Leafs team. A strong second period, during which the Blue Jackets scored three unanswered goals in eight minutes to take a 5-1 lead, secured the two points.

Crashed the boards

The 5-1 goal from Dante Fabbro is now being criticized by the Leafs fan base, who claim it resulted from a missed call by the officials. Just before the goal, Leafs forward Steven Lorentz crashed into the boards while trying to score, and the Blue Jackets scored immediately afterward. Lorentz was visibly upset and broke his stick in frustration. He did not return to the game.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans very upset

Fans argue that the play should have been stopped by the officials before Columbus had a chance to score.
“NHL refs maintaining their status as the worst officials in sports—calling minor stick taps but letting dangerous plays go. No interest in protecting players,” one fan writes.
“Should’ve been blown down,” another adds.
Next up, the Maple Leafs will face the Philadelphia Flyers, while the Blue Jackets will take on the St. Louis Blues.
