Last night, Brian Burke and Brad May were reunited in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ studio broadcast for the game between the Leafs and the Calgary Flames. As expected, Burke couldn’t help himself and delivered a perfect chirp that had the entire studio cracking up.
Brad May played 18 seasons and 1,041 games in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks. Over his career, he also racked up 2,248 penalty minutes.

Played for Burke three tomes
During his playing days, May suited up under Brian Burke’s management no fewer than three times — with the Vancouver Canucks, the Anaheim Ducks, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last night, the duo reunited in the studio during the Leafs’ 4–3 win over the Flames.
Brad May joked around
Before the game, the hosts introduced Burke and May and mentioned their long history together. That’s when May kicked off the chirping, jokingly blaming Burke for the end of his career.
“I played for Brian — he got me three different times in a trade, but he also got rid of me four times. And that’s why I retired, because he wasn’t there at the end,” May said with a laugh.
Brian Burke awesome chirp
Burke, of course, didn’t miss a beat and fired back with a classic comeback.
“I brought May in for his 1,000th game and a Stanley Cup. I’m pretty sure those are the highlights of his otherwise unspectacular career,” Burke replied, sending the studio into laughter.
