The Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers played the only game on Sunday, with the Capitals earning two points at Madison Square Garden after a 1–0 win. Despite the loss, the Rangers did not lack scoring chances, as Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren absolutely robbed Mika Zibanejad of a goal — a save that has fans raving.
Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson shared goaltending duties for the Capitals last season, with Thompson starting 43 games and Lindgren 39. This season, Thompson has started two games, and on Sunday night against the Rangers, Lindgren made his season debut — facing his brother Ryan’s former team, which traded him to the Colorado Avalanche last season.

Charlie Lindgren’s amazing glove save
Lindgren faced 35 shots against the Rangers and stopped them all. Standing on his head the entire game, he was named the first star of the night. One save in particular has drawn a lot of attention: on a 2-on-1 rush, Artemi Panarin found Mika Zibanejad with an open net, but Lindgren managed to slide across and make an incredible glove save.
”Save of the year”
Fans are loving the play, described as ”Highway robbery” by NHL.
“This is easily the save of the year so far,” one fan writes on Reddit.
“Mika — his face says it all,” another comments.
“That’s the save you dream of making as a kid. Goddamn perfection!” adds a third.
“Nasty save,” a fourth writes.
The Rangers have yet to score on home ice this season.
