Brett Hull is one of those NHL legends that people can’t seem to hear enough about. Luckily, there are plenty of stories about the hard-shooting Hall of Famer—like the time he invited his teammate’s cab driver to sing karaoke.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 1984 NHL Draft, Brett Hull began his career with the Calgary Flames. But it was in St. Louis where he became a true legend of the game. After scoring over 50 goals in five straight seasons between 1989 and 1994, no one could question his skills. Hull would go on to win two Stanley Cups—one with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and another with the star-studded Detroit Red Wings in 2002.
Brett Hull loved a good party
But during his time with the Blues, NHL fans discovered that Hull wasn’t just a great goal scorer on the ice—he was also a really funny guy off it. He loved a good time, something he proved repeatedly throughout his career. One time, he even convinced a cab driver to sing karaoke with him and Kelly Chase, according to Hockey Buzz.
Found the cab driver
One day, the Blues had a day off, which meant drinks with the guys. Brett Hull, Kelly Chase, and then-Blues captain Garth Butcher went out drinking. Afterwards, they all ended up at Hull’s house for more shenanigans. Around 4 a.m., Butcher decided it was time to go home. He called a cab and went to the bathroom, assuming the driver would wait if he wasn’t ready.
But when he came back outside, the cab was nowhere to be seen. Confused, Butcher went downstairs—and there he found his cab driver, wedged between Brett Hull and Kelly Chase, singing Charlie Brown on the karaoke machine. What a magical moment!
