Quinn Hughes targeted by Canadian fans

Quinn Hughes was part of Team USA’s squad that defeated Team Canada in the Olympic final. Now, Canadian fans are showing disrespect toward the former Vancouver Canucks captain.

Hughes was drafted seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Canucks and is widely considered one of the best defensemen in the world today. After serving as captain in Vancouver for the past three seasons, he was traded to the Minnesota Wild in December.

Quinn Hughes targeted by Canadian fans

The Vancouver Canucks fanbase was understandably disappointed by the trade. Moreover, after Hughes helped Team USA edge out Team Canada for Olympic gold—recording one goal and seven assists in the tournament—he hasn’t exactly become more popular among Canadian fans.
Additionally, a Canucks jersey with Hughes’ name on it has now been found outside the Hockey Hall of Fame. The jersey has been torn apart and defaced with insults referencing Team USA’s visit to the White House.

Fans are furious

Fans, both American and Canadian, are now expressing outrage over the act. On social media, including X, users have been vocal in their criticism.
“Canadians have the ‘overly nice people’ stigma in shambles!” one fan wrote on X.
“It’s ridiculous. Canadians have completely lost it to go this low. It’s embarrassing because we should be better than this,” another wrote.
“We always heard Canada was where you went to be welcomed and respected. Yet here we are, because a man played a game he loved for his country and accepted an invitation to be celebrated as the best in the world. Is this really what they want to be known for now?” a third fan said.
Ultimately, you can see the jersey below.
