We’re only the first day of the NHL season, but we’ve already seen our first injury.
The Vegas Golden Knights won 4-1 over the Seattle Kraken, but they had forward Brett Howden ejected from the game following a dirty, dangerous hit on Brandon Tanev. Many fans think the year’s first suspension may be on its way.
The hit occurred in the game’s third period, resulting in Tanev having trouble getting up from the ice. Tanev had to leave the game injured, and if we’re guessing, he’ll probably be sidelined for a while.
The hit happened with Vegas leading the game 3-1, but Seattle didn’t capitalize on the following man advantage.
Howden was given a match penalty for an illegal check to the head, and it was tough for Vegas to argue it. Many fans on social media asked the NHL to take action and either fine or suspend Howden.
”That’s a dirty hit,” one said.
”Suspension incoming,” another said.
”If the NHL player safety wants to be taken serious this year, set the tone with a 5-game sussy,” a third added.
The Vegas Golden Knights’ goals were scored by Chandler Stephenson, Jonathan Marchessault, Ivan Barbashev, and Jack Eichel. Before the game, they had a simply unreal banner ceremony, celebrating their first-ever Stanley Cup title.
