TSN has fans talking, proposes huge blockbuster trade that would send Auston Matthews to Montreal

Auston Matthews had another disappointing playoff as the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated in the second round by the Florida Panthers.
Toronto won a playoff series for the first time in 20 years as they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Still, fans had higher expectations than elimination in round two, and Auston Matthews received criticism for not stepping up to the occasion when it was most needed.

Matthews finished the season with 85 points in 74 games, and in 11 playoff games, he recorded 11 points. Many fans thought that Matthews went missing for most of the games, and during the series against Florida Panthers, their core four: Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, and Marner, received heavy criticism for their lack of involvement.

Auston Matthews is one of the league’s best players, and just like it has been in the last couple of years, there are speculations over his future. He’s a free agent in 2024, and Toronto surely wants to get a contract extension sorted out before the start of next season.

Auston Matthews said Monday that he intends to be in Toronto in the future as well, but now, TSN proposes a trade that has fans talking.

If the Maple Leafs considered trading Auston Matthews, the price would be sky-high. One team that has assets and draft picks is the Montreal Canadiens, but it would be highly controversial.

That’s why so many were surprised by TSN 690’s proposal, which would see Matthews to Montreal, and Cole Caufield, Mike Matheson, and the 5th overall pick this summer to Toronto.

It would be an understatement to say that it would be a blockbuster move, and we honestly can’t see it happening. But it sure got fans in Montreal talking, with many speaking their minds on the matter.

What would you think of this proposed trade?
