The Flyers secured a 4–1 win after coming back from a 1–0 deficit in the first period.
“Just making mistakes in the second period that ended up costing us. Overall, I thought we played hard. I thought we were right there. The chances were probably pretty even. We’re just not making enough plays,” Capitals coach Spencer Carbery told NHL.com after the game.
Tom Wilson was visibly upset during the game and was spotted shouting at his teammates to wake them up. At one point, he was also penalized for roughing after an altercation with Travis Konecny.
Then, at the final buzzer, Wilson and Konecny continued their verbal exchange. Wilson was caught by a TV mic dropping F-bombs at Konecny.
“You fucking nerd,” Wilson was heard chirping, which made the announcers laugh.
Fans mock Wilson
Meanwhile, fans online are now mocking Wilson for calling Konecny a “nerd” after the 4–1 loss.
“For someone who plays the way he does, I don’t know why he uses nerd as an insult. Not to mention this wouldn’t be his first time using it,” one fan wrote on X.
“Still lost, stay salty Tom,” another wrote.
“Calling someone a nerd down 1–4?” a third fan asked ironically.
