That one time Chris Nilan and Chris Chelios teamed up against Tie Domi in a wrestling match, and things went horribly wrong

Imagine walking in a hotel hallway and seeing Tie Domi, Chris Nolan, and Chris Chelios being in a wrestling match. Well, it happened.

We don’t know if anyone saw it, but it is true that Domi, Nilan, and Chelios, three hockey legends, ended up in a brutal wrestling match at a hotel after having a few cocktails too many after a charity event.

Tie Domi and Chris Nilan are two of the most feared enforcers of all time, and Chris Chelios is, obviously, one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history.

But one time, Chelios and Nilan, also known as ’Knuckles,’ teamed up to win over Tie Domi in a wrestling match. But it went horribly wrong, proving what a beast Tie Domi really was in his prime time.

When Tie Domi appeared on Chris Nolan’s The Raw Knuckles Podcast, it only took a few minutes before they talked about the wrestling match.

”We were at a tournament in Cape Cod, and Chelios was there, and we were staying at a hotel, we had a few cocktails,” Nilan said.

”And I’ve never fought Tie on the ice, and I won’t say it was a fight in the hotel hallway, but it was a wrestling match.

”And I’m gonna tell you right now, I couldn’t pin Tie for nothing. He had me down, I tried everything to get up. I could not move. He buried me, and then Chelios jumped in to try him. And then he buried him to.”

Tie Domi was full of laughter when he also revealed that he even pushed Chelios into a fountain that same night.

”Chelios wanted to get it on. You know, I love him, but I kind of was a strong kid,” Domi said.

”But Knuckles were the guy, and he was determined to keep coming at me. I wish we had phones so we could’ve videoed it, because honestly, I still picture Knuckles coming back. If you know Knuckles, he doesn’t give up. He kept coming back, and back, back. And he’s my idol, you know!”

The following day, Chris Nilan had marks from the wrestling match.

”I was foaming out the mouth. And I get up in the morning, obviously I had a hangover, but I also had rug burns on my elbows, my forearms, my knees. Everything! He had me pinned. I was trying to get up, and I just had this big burn on my elbow. It was crazy!

”And then Chelios tried and … forget about it. Tie beat us both and we finally waved the white flag, and we had a couple of cocktails to put us to bed.”

What a great story from a couple of legends!
