Teemu Selanne’s reaction when Chris Pronger was traded to the Ducks

Teemu Selanne and Chris Pronger are two absolute legends of the game. But before teaming up for a Stanley Cup win with the Anaheim Ducks, they were opponents for a very long time. When Pronger was traded to the Ducks, Selanne had a hilarious, two-word reaction: ”Holy sh*t!”

Both Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne are considered by many to be among the best players in the NHL during the 1990s. They won numerous awards with their respective teams — and individually.

However, they each “only” won one Stanley Cup, and they won it together with the Ducks in 2007. It was the first — and still only — Stanley Cup win for the Ducks, and both Teemu Selanne and Chris Pronger played major roles in it. But Pronger was not traded to the Ducks until 2006, meaning he and Selanne had played against each other for many years, both in the NHL and internationally.

Hilarious reaction

In fact, Pronger was the only player Teemu Selanne hated playing against, something he revealed on the Missing Curfew podcast. He also shared his own hilarious reaction when he found out that Pronger had been traded to the Ducks.
“Pronger was by far the toughest player for me to play against. He was a big, strong son of a bitch, and he really wanted to hurt you. You know, I used to hate him. I didn’t really hate many players during my career, but that guy was something else,” Selanne explained on the podcast.

Teemu Selanne will never forget the day Pronger became a Duck.
“I’ll always remember July 3, my birthday, in Finland. Alex Gilchrist, a PR guy for the Ducks, called me and said, ‘We got Pronger.’ We had just lost the conference final to the Edmonton Oilers, and I think the Oilers lost in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes. So I didn’t know that Pronger was available. But then I realized it was Chris Pronger, and I said, ‘Holy sh*t!’ I knew then that we were going to have a good chance to win the Cup,” Selanne said on the podcast.
And how right he was!
