Ross Johnston Pummels Ryan Lomberg in Lopsided Fight

Hockey players are fighters.

NHL talents are certainly not afraid of dropping the gloves, and they fight until the final whistle of every game. It’s a battle on ice and hockey players dive headfirst into the action. However, sometimes they may bite off more than they can chew, but you still respect them for trying.

That is what happened last night when Calgary Flames forward Ryan Lomberg, who is billed at 5’9”, dropped the gloves with New York Islanders forward Ross Johnston. Johnston is listed at 6’5”. He is a monster of a man that Lomberg literally looks up to.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t a storybook ending in which Lomberg defied the mighty giant to knock him down. It went down exactly as you would’ve imagined in your head: Lomberg got absolutely pummeled.

Like I said before, you can’t knock Lomberg for trying, but Johnston was clearly out of his league in this bout. Lomberg left the game and was kept from returning as a precautionary measure, according to the Flames’ Twitter account.
