Vegas won Game 1

The game ended 4–2, with Vegas goaltender Carter Hart making 36 saves.
“We came into this building against that team in this type of situation, where they try to kind of blitz you. And I thought our first period was good. We didn’t play a flawless game by any means. We got some timely goals and some great saves at key moments, we still have work to do. It’s nice to get the first one under your belt and get a win, but we have plenty of work to do when we’re playing against that team,” Vegas head coach John Tortorella told reporters after the game.

Nathan MacKinnon went off

MacKinnon recorded one assist in the game, but he was not happy with either his own performance or the Avalanche’s overall effort. While speaking to reporters after the game, he appeared to lose patience with one reporter and snapped.
“We just weren’t sharp. Our execution was poor across the board. We’ve just got to be sharper than that. We had our chances, and they didn’t do a whole lot either. It was kind of a nothing game, and then they got a few goals. They’re a really good team, obviously, but I thought we did a lot of damage to ourselves. Guys were kind of all over the place, and like I said, our execution needs to be better,” MacKinnon told reporters.

MacKinnon was then asked what the Avalanche should take away from the game, and he quickly shut down the question.
“I just said execution like five times. I think that’s what hurt us,” he answered.
Game 2 will be played on Friday.
