Henrik Lundqvist opens up on his future: ”Don’t know if I’ll stay with the Rangers”

.

With two years left on his contract with the New York Rangers, the future of Henrik Lundqvist is unknown.
Now, the five time All Star goalie opens up on his future.
“I don’t know if I’ll stay with the Rangers for the rest of my career”, Lundqvist tells Swedish news outlet Expressen.

For the second year in a row, the New York Rangers missed the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Declined a trade

The Rangers reportedly offered to trade Henrik Lundqvist at the deadline last year, but he said no and decided to stay with the organisation.

In January, Lundqvist was named to appear in his fifth All Star game.

Named in World Championship roster

After failing to qualify for the playoffs, the Swedish goalie decided to join the national team competing in the World Championships in Slovakia, starting this Friday facing Czech Republic.

Lundqvist still got two years left on his contract with the New York Rangers. However, he doesn’t yet know what the future will hold.

“I don’t know if I’ll stay”

Speaking to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Lundqvist says that he might leave the Rangers.

“I don’t know if I’ll stay with the Rangers for the rest of my career. I still got two years left on my contract and the goal has always been to stay. But when you reach my age, you’ll never know, Lundqvists says.

“I have my own agenda but if the organisation feels differently, I’m going to listen. You can’t be doing things for yourself. The dream might not always be realistic so we’ll se what happens. Now, I’m just focusing on the World Championship”.
