There were two special guests on the ice for warmups before the Washington Capitals’ game against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday. Alex Ovechkin’s two sons, Sergei and Ilya, took the ice – and fans all spotted one interesting and adorable detail.
Alex Ovechkin was celebrated by the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, after becoming the first player to score 900 NHL goals and also reaching 1,500 games earlier this season. Ovechkin was honored during a ceremony before the Capitals’ game against the Winnipeg Jets – and beside Ovechkin stood his wife, Nastya, his mother, Tatyana, and his two sons, Sergei and Ilya. But before the ceremony, an adorable moment was on display as Sergei and Ilya took part in the Capitals’ warmups.
Alex Oveckin’s sons stole the show
The two kids were dressed in full equipment, donning Ovechkin jerseys, passing the puck around with their father, and even taking some shots on goalie Logan Thompson. For Alex Ovechkin, the greatest goalscorer in NHL history, it was a special moment.
“That’s a pretty cool moment. They’re young right now, but they’re going to remember this for the rest of their lives and they’re going to show this to their kids,” Ovechkin said per NHL.com. “Yeah, it’s a special moment. It was pretty cool.”
Fans also loved it, and they were quick to notice some interesting and adorable details. It didn’t take long for fans to point out that both sons wore yellow laces on their skates, while also skating with their tongues out. Remind you of anyone?
”Didn’t know Ovi’s sty was genetic,” one said on social media.
”This is getting out of hand, now there are 3 of them!” another said.

But fans also noticed that his oldest son, Sergei, who was born in 2018, had quite the shot power while taking shots on Logan Thompson. Many joked about how he would’ve been a great fit on many NHL teams.
”Can they play center? Asking for the Canucks,” one said.
”Kids are getting better elevation on their shots than most of the Blues,” another said.
”Kid can shoot! No better feeling as a father than stepping onto the ice with your kids,” another added.
