Craig Berube slams William Nylander after two straight losses

After a win in their season opener against the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs have dropped two straight games to the Detroit Red Wings. Leafs winger William Nylander has tallied four points so far, and now coach Craig Berube says he needs more from his star forward.

Last season, the Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with Mitch Marner, who signed with the Vegas Golden Knights. Three games into the new season, the Maple Leafs appear to be missing their 102-point forward from last year. Currently, defenseman Morgan Rielly and William Nylander are leading the team in points, with four each.

Wants more from William Nylander

After their double-header loss to the Red Wings, who also beat them twice in the preseason, head coach Craig Berube said he wants more from William Nylander, who tallied 84 points last season. So far this season, Nylander has only registered three shots on goal, compared to an average of 3.1 shots per game last season.

”It’s not enough”

“Willy needs more shots. He needs to attack more, needs to shoot more. He’s got to get on the inside more. There are shifts and times where he is skating, but I just feel like it’s not enough. We need more out of him,” Berube said after last night’s loss.
“I don’t know exactly what it is, to be honest with you. But I’ll have a conversation with him and see where he’s at and what’s going on,” Berube added, according to TSN.
Next, the Maple Leafs will host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
