Artturi Lehkonen shaken up in postgame interview after his skate hits Boychuck in the face

Johnny Boychuck skated off the ice in panic after taking Artturi Lehkonens‘ skate blade straight to his face during the Islanders Canadiens game last night.

Reports from several news outlets are saying the 13-year veteran only got cuts to his eyelid with the eye being safe. Yet, there hasn’t been an official statement from the Islanders regarding Boychuck, who’s being evaluated following the incident.

The scary injury occured in the third period at The Coliseum, with Lehkonen stumbled in front of the Canadiens goal. His right leg popped up, hitting Boychuck who was standing behind him in the face.

Boychuck laid on the ice a second or two before skating off and headed straight to the locker room.

Speaking after the game, the Finnish forward was shaken up.

“My skate hit him in the face. I really hope it didn’t hit him in the eye or anything like that but it was scary for sure,” Lehkonen said, “I felt it right away that it hit somewhere high so it was like.. I just turned around and I was just like I didn’t know really what to do
