Youth hockey player dies after collapsing on ice during training camp

A terrible tragedy has struck the hockey community. A 13-year-old boy with the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association (MYHA) died after collapsing on the ice during a preseason camp.

The boy, Henry Lent, played for the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association Blue Devils. According to the GoFundMe page set up to raise money for the family of the boy, he suffered “a catastrophic brain injury.”

Lent was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead a couple of hours later.

On its website, the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association writes about the tragic news.

“We are completely devastated by this tragic loss.  Henry was a beloved teammate and friend to many. While we cannot imagine their unspeakable grief, the Lent family is in our hearts, as well as in our constant thoughts and prayers,” the MYHA Board of Directors and Officers writes.

Our hockey community is tightly knit. We know many you will want to honor Henry and offer support to the Lents. In the coming days, as we learn more, we will share ways for members of the club to do that.  In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up in Henry’s honor.”

As of Tuesday morning, more than a thousand people made donations through the GoFundMe page surpassing the $50,000 goal by more than $23,000.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Lent family. Rest in peace.
