NHLPA Agrees to Approve Recommended Change to Rule 78.7 (ii)

As we know, coaches can challenge a goal in which they think their goalie was interfered with. However, the NHLPA has agreed to approve the recommended change to 78.7 (ii). The referees would originally look at the play on a monitor and decide right then and there. Now, the play will be sent to the Situation Room and the same people that call high-stick goals, kick-in goals and other controversial plays will decide on Goalie Interference.

The Board of Governors will now need to approve the rule change, but there currently isn’t a set timeline as to when the BOG will vote.
