Matt Niskanen goes full lumberjack with vicious two handed wack on Gus Nyquist

Matt Niskanen challenged his inner lumberjack against the Blue Jackets last night, taking a heavy two hand wack on Gustav Nyquist.

However, even though Nyquist fell to the ground with officials standing nearby, the defenceman got away without a penalty.

Fans at Nationwide Arena got to see the Philadelphia Flyers triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets last night. The Flyers made franchise history sweeping Columbus in the regular season for the first time ever.

The crowd also got to see a pretty uncommon call, or maybe we should say a dicey non-call from the officials.

Blue Jackets’ Gustav Nyquist got the puck in front of the net with Matt Niskanen coming up from behind. The defenceman used his stick to slash the Swede lumberjack style over the wrists, with Nyquist clearly in pain.

The officials missed the slashing which incensed the fans. However, after the following face off, the officials might have issued a make up call by sending Kevin Hayes to the penalty box for slashing.
