This has to be one of the best plays all year. The Detroit Red Wings were down 4-3 with only 90 seconds to go against the LA Kings, as they pulled goalie Alexander Nederljkovic to gain an extra attacker.
The LA Kings took advantage, and the puck ended up to Viktor Arvidsson, who was alone in front of goal. Everyone watching was sure the game was over. Arvidsson had seconds to tuck away the puck in the open net, but it ended in disaster. And all thanks to Dylan Larkin.
Larkin has always been known for his great skating abilities, and he really showed why last night. He came to the Red Wings’ rescue from nowhere and somehow got Arvidsson to miss the open net.
Kings missed the opportunity to grab a two-goal lead, and as it couldn’t get worse, Detroit also scored the equalizer with 40 seconds to spare. Dylan Larkin’s play, and open-goal save, just got even more impressive when Oskar Sundqvist tied the game.
Although the Red Wings lost the game in overtime 5-4, Dylan Larkin deserves all the praise for his fantastic play that saved the Red Wings a point.
The video sequence of Larkin saving a goal has spread like wildfire on social media, and we sure understand why. It’s the kind of mentality that the Red Wings will need for the rest of the season.
And definitely, a thing that gets a team and its fans going in the blink of a second. And although it “only” earned the Red Wings a point last night, the sequence can benefit them for the rest of the year.
