In June, reporter Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun reported that Auston Matthews had tested positive for COVID-19.
The report was published after the Maple Leafs made public that an unnamed player had received the positive test, with Simmons revealing who it was.
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost against the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0 on Sunday.
Post game, Auston Matthews got a question from the Toronto Sun reporter. He decided to let Simmons know what he thought of the article.
“Well, first of all, it’s unfortunate that I’m getting a question from you at this point, Steve. I just wanted to say I didn’t really appreciate the article you wrote about me a couple months ago. I thought it was a bit unethical to be honest,” Matthews said.
Matthews continued with saying “but moving on” and responded to Simmons’ question.
On Twitter, Simmons later responded.
