New York Rangers team records: every all-time leader, and the two set in 2023-24

The New York Rangers have been in the NHL since 1926 and have never played under another name. Their record book runs the whole way, and the two most basic entries in it are three seasons old.

Rod Gilbert’s 1,021 points have stood since 1978. Brian Leetch’s 741 assists have stood since 2003. Henrik Lundqvist’s 459 wins will not be approached by anybody soon. Then the club record for wins in a season and the club record for points in a season were both set in 2023-24, which is odd for a franchise this old.

Who has the most points in Rangers history?

Rod Gilbert, with 1,021, from eighteen seasons and nothing but Rangers games.

#PlayerPoints
1Rod Gilbert1,021
2Brian Leetch981
3Jean Ratelle817

Gilbert’s total breaks down as 406 goals and 615 assists. Leetch got within forty points of him from the blue line, which is the more remarkable of the two careers, and he holds the assist record outright with 741.

Harry Howell played more games than either of them, 1,160, and that is the oldest unbroken mark in the book. Ron Greschner has the penalty minutes, 1,226.

Who has scored the most goals for the Rangers?

Gilbert again, with 406. Jean Ratelle is second with 336, and Chris Kreider is third with 326.

Kreider’s 326 is finished business. He played his last Rangers season in 2024-25 and now plays in Montreal, where the reaction to his arrival was its own event.

Jagr’s 2005-06 is the outlier season in club history, and he did it at 33 in his first full year in New York. His 123 points are three clear of anything Artemi Panarin managed and fourteen clear of Ratelle’s 1971-72. His scoring against every opponent shows how evenly he spread it around. Leetch’s 102 points from defense in 1991-92 is the line that stands out beside it.

Two of these need their schedules attached. Adam Graves scored 52 goals in 1993-94, but that was an 84-game season, and Kreider’s 52 in 2021-22 came in 82.

The 2023-24 team won 55 games and took 114 points, both club records, and lost in the Eastern Conference Final. It is not the best season in club history by the measure that accounts for schedule length: the points percentage record still belongs to the teams of the early seventies, which played 78 games.

At the other end, the 1943-44 side won six games out of fifty, which is the worst season any Rangers team has had by a distance.

The ten-game winning streak has happened three times, in the winter of 1939-40, in 1973, and in February 2024, and no Rangers team has ever won eleven.

Who holds the Rangers goaltending records?

Henrik Lundqvist holds every career measure, including fifteen seasons in which he never played for another NHL club.

Lundqvist’s three career records are the safest marks in the book. Mike Richter is next on wins with 301, 158 behind, and no modern goaltender has played 887 games for one club. The rival Lundqvist named as his toughest tells you something about the era he kept goal in.

The two old marks need their schedules again. Richter’s 42 wins came in an 84-game season and Roach’s 13 shutouts in a 44-game season.

What is the best single game by a Ranger?

Steve Vickers, 18 February 1976 against Washington: three goals and four assists in an 11-4 win. Seven points, and nobody in club history has managed more than six since.

The one-game goal record is five, and only three Rangers have done it: Mika Zibanejad against Washington on 5 March 2020, Mark Pavelich in 1983, and Don Murdoch in 1976. Zibanejad’s fifth came 33 seconds into overtime and won the game 6-5.

How many Stanley Cups have the Rangers won?

Four: 1928, 1933, 1940, and 1994.

The gap between the third and the fourth is the defining fact of the franchise. Fifty-four years passed between 1940 and 1994, and it ended in game seven against Vancouver on 14 June 1994, 3-2.

Which records could fall next?

Three are in play, and none of them is a headline record.

RecordHolderChallengerRoughly how far

Fifth in career points, 691Mark MessierMika Zibanejadone season
Third in career goaltending wins, 267Ed GiacominIgor Shesterkinthree to four seasons

Zibanejad finished 2025-26 on 284 goals and 667 points, which puts the top three in goals and the top five in points within reach, and Gilbert’s 1,021 is nowhere near it. Adam Fox finished with 422 points and 350 assists, both far short of Leetch.

Igor Shesterkin finished on 187 wins and 22 shutouts. He is two shutouts from the club’s top four and 269 wins from Lundqvist, which is the whole point: his season was cut short by knee surgery, and that is the kind of thing that decides these lists.

Everything else in the book is effectively settled. Gilbert, Leetch, Howell, Jagr’s 123, and all three of Lundqvist’s career marks won’t be touched anytime soon, which is worth remembering while watching the Rangers chase the ones that are live.

Where does this data come from?

Career and single-season figures come from Hockey-Reference’s career leaders for the franchise

Updated once a year, in June, after the season is complete.
