Andrée-Anne Barbeau: Everything you need to know

Andrée-Anne Barbeau is the host of Le Hockey des Canadiens, RDS’s French-language broadcasts of Montreal Canadiens games, from the 2026-27 season. Andrée-Anne Barbeau is the first woman in RDS history to hold the job on a permanent basis, succeeding Alain Crête. She joined RDS in 2018 and was one of the network’s two lead anchors at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics.

Is Andrée-Anne Barbeau the first woman to host Canadiens games on RDS?

Yes, on a permanent basis. Bell Media announced on 14 April 2026 that Andrée-Anne Barbeau would take over Le Hockey des Canadiens from the 2026-27 season, calling her “the first woman in RDS history to hold this position on a permanent basis” in its announcement. She succeeds Alain Crête, who announced he would retire after the IIHF Men’s World Championship at the end of May 2026.

“I have to say, I earned this job. I worked very hard to get here, and my bosses had known for a long time that I wanted this position,” Barbeau said in a Le Droit interview published two days after the announcement (translated from French).

What else does Andrée-Anne Barbeau host on RDS?

As of RDS’s April 2026 announcement, Andrée-Anne Barbeau hosted the Saturday edition of L’Antichambre, RDS’s hockey talk show, and the network’s Sunday-night NFL games, and occasionally co-hosted Le 5 à 7. She has also hosted RDS’s Ottawa Senators broadcasts, and in April 2026, the network named Jasmin Leroux as the new play-by-play voice of RDS’s Senators games. Since the 2023-24 season, the PWHL’s first, she has hosted RDS’s broadcasts of Montreal’s PWHL games, in the league whose first game was called by Daniella Ponticelli.

In February 2026 she was RDS’s lead anchor for the Milano Cortina Olympics, sharing the role with Jasmin Leroux. It was the fourth Olympic assignment of her career, according to Bell Media

What did Andrée-Anne Barbeau do before RDS?

Andrée-Anne Barbeau started in radio. In her own account, she began as a radio journalist at the Énergie and Rouge stations and later joined RDS from TVA Sports. Early on, she interned on the sports show 110 % and covered the QMJHL’s Chicoutimi Saguenéens. She joined RDS in September 2018 as a journalist and a contributor to L’Antichambre and to the network’s trade deadline and free agency coverage.

Why did Andrée-Anne Barbeau leave TVA Sports?

Andrée-Anne Barbeau left TVA Sports in 2018 to join RDS, moving between Quebec’s two rival sports networks. In a 2024 interview, she described the move in terms of the two media groups: “In 2018, I left the Quebecor family to join the Bell Media family.”
