Travis Konecny and Bryan Rust
The series has really lived up to its nickname. It has been a true battle, with very physical play and neither team backing down. At one point, every skater on the ice ended up in the penalty box at once.
One such battle took place between Konecny and Rust, who ended up wrestling on the ice. Now, that altercation could cost Konecny a suspension for attempting to kick Rust.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Konecny addressed the situation.
“I don’t know. I just remember being on the bottom—there was a ref on top of me and him,” Konecny told reporters.
Calling for suspension
Online, however, fans are calling for a suspension for Konecny.
“If Travis Konecny isn’t suspended for a game, then I do not know what the NHL is thinking. The Flyers break rules left and right, then somehow come out on top of everything,” one fan wrote on X.
“Travis Konecny should sit the next two playoff games for the Flyers, even if that means it carries over to Round 2. Pathetic play that simply doesn’t belong in the game at all. NHL Player Safety better get this right,” another wrote.
“If Travis Konecny plays another game in this series, it’s a failure of the NHL to protect players. At most levels of hockey, attempting a kick will land you a suspension for a full season. That’s not hockey—that’s attempted battery,” a third wrote.
