For the first time since April 26, 2011, Buffalo Sabres fans experienced playoff hockey on Sunday. But while the long-awaited return brought excitement, some pregame behavior has drawn criticism online.
Before the game, a group of fans placed a dummy wearing a Boston Bruins jersey outside the arena. Several fans were seen punching, kicking, and wrestling the dummy while others cheered them on. The scene has since sparked backlash online.

Buffalo Sabres fans going wild
The Sabres’ season has been a roller coaster. After starting 11-14-4 through their first 29 games, they surged to win the Atlantic Division and secure a playoff berth. Sunday’s game marked the team’s first playoff appearance in 15 years, and it delivered plenty of drama. Trailing 2–0 entering the third period, Buffalo scored four unanswered goals to claim a 4–3 victory. Despite the thrilling comeback, the actions of some fans outside the arena have divided opinion.
Called out online
While some viewed the display as harmless rivalry banter, others were quick to criticize it on social media.
“And just like that, I’m rooting for anyone but the Sabres,” one fan wrote on X.
“Another example that you can’t teach class in Buffalo. Anyone expect something different?” another added.
“First time these idiots get a playoff game and embarrass themselves,” a third wrote.
“Buffalo is embarrassing themselves,” said a fourth.
“Classless and ridiculous!” a fifth fan commented.
