Alexander Ovechkin’s sons’ hilarious goal celebrations

Alexander Ovechkin has scored countless memorable goals, often accompanied by iconic celebrations. On Sunday, his two sons paid homage to their dad’s legacy during practice, and fans are finding it utterly adorable.

Ovechkin is widely regarded as the greatest goalscorer in NHL history. Last year, he surpassed the legendary Wayne Gretzky by scoring his 895th goal, setting a new all-time record.

Currently, Ovechkin has 921 NHL goals and is on pace to finish this season with an impressive 31 goals. Over his 21-year career, he has delivered some unforgettable goal celebrations. On March 19, 2009, after scoring his 50th goal of the season, Ovechkin dropped his stick on the ice and held his hands over it, signaling that his stick was “too hot.” When he scored his record-breaking 895th goal on April 6, 2025, he celebrated with a dramatic dive onto the ice. On Sunday, his sons recreated both celebrations.

Replicated dad’s celebrations

Alexander Ovechkin’s sons, Sergei (born 2018) and Ilya (born 2020), joined their dad and a few of his teammates on the ice. The boys practiced goal scoring—and celebrations. First, Ilya performed the “hot stick” celebration, followed by Sergei replicating his father’s bellyflop celebration.
Fans have been praising the sons’ antics online.
“I can’t tell you how happy it makes me seeing Sergei out there practicing and having fun,” one fan wrote on X.
“Precious!” added another.
”Can we sign him up?” a third one chimed in.
