Fans love Charlie Lindgren after ”gutsy” shootout effort

Charlie Lindgren made 18 saves in the Washington Capitals’ win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. However, what fans are really talking about is not just the win, but also how he played through an apparent injury during the shootout.

The Capitals looked poised for a comfortable two points against the Red Wings, until Alex DeBrincat shifted the game’s momentum by scoring two goals within a minute to tie it.

Charlie Lindgren got injured

After a goalless overtime, Washington then secured the extra point in the shootout with goals from Dylan Strome, Ryan Leonard, and Nic Dowd—marking Dowd’s second career penalty-shot goal in his 11-season career. Meanwhile, in the final moments of overtime, Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren suffered an injury; nevertheless, he powered through and defended the net during the shootout. Following the win, TV cameras captured Lindgren being helped to the locker room by his teammates.
