The New York Rangers are having a tough season, and it became abundantly clear last night when they managed to take three separate penalties on the same play. Now, fans can’t stop laughing at the embarrassing moment.
The rivalry between the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers is one of the most heated in the NHL. But this season, the Rangers are really taking a beating. In the three games played so far, the Islanders have won every matchup and have even shut out the Rangers in two of them.

Rangers embarrassing blunder
Last night, however, the Rangers did manage to score twice, through Mika Zibanejad and Taylor Raddysh. Still, they conceded five goals in the loss.
“They got that power-play goal, and I think we lost a little bit of momentum. I thought we needed a bit better effort. In the third, we were trying, but they were doing a good job, so I thought we just needed a little bit more,” Rangers defenseman Braden Schneider told NHL.com after the game.
During the second period, one situation occurred that perfectly symbolized the season the Rangers are having. While in their defensive zone, the Rangers somehow managed to take three unrelated minor penalties on the same play. Sam Carrick was called for tripping Kyle MacLean and cross-checking Mathew Barzal, while Matt Rempe received two minutes for boarding Marc Gatcomb.
Roasted by their own fans
Not even Rangers fans could stop laughing at the highly embarrassing moment and are now roasting their own team on social media.
“On par for the Rangers season, that’s for sure,” one fan wrote on X.
“Rangers pulling a hat trick of penalties? Impressive chaos!” another added.
“Been playing and watching for 35 years. Have never seen this in my life. I don’t even know what to say anymore,” a third chimed in.
The Rangers will get a shot at redemption on Thursday, when the teams meet again—this time at Madison Square Garden.
