The 2026 Olympics are just three weeks away, and the rivalry between Canada and the United States is already heating up. Last night, the Montreal Canadiens added fuel to the fire with a subtle but brilliant online chirp.
On February 11, the Olympic hockey tournament begins with two games. First up is Slovakia vs. Finland, followed by Sweden vs. the host nation, Italy. The participating countries have released their rosters, and each list included surprising omissions.

Cole Caufield left off Team USA
For Team Sweden, many fans were shocked to see Mattias Ekholm left off the roster. Team Canada also made headlines by leaving out notable names such as Connor Bedard and Sam Bennett. Team USA likewise surprised many by excluding Adam Fox and Jason Robertson — along with Cole Caufield.
The 15th overall pick from 2019 is having a great season. He is currently on pace for a career-high 80 points for the Montreal Canadiens and has recorded nine points in his last ten games.
Montreal Canadiens perfect chirp
Caufield’s hot streak continued on Tuesday. He scored the Canadiens’ game-winning goal against the Minnesota Wild with just 15 seconds remaining. Following the 4–3 victory, the Canadiens couldn’t resist sending a little message to Team USA.
On X (formerly Twitter), the Canadiens posted a video of Caufield’s goal. In the caption, they simply tagged Team USA — a reminder of the player they left off their Olympic roster.
Fans loved the subtle but effective jab:
”LOL, Habs trolling USA Hockey. You love to see it,” one fan wrote on X.
“Epic comment. Unbelievable he is not on the US Olympic team,” another added.
“It’s like they don’t want skilled players,” a third wrote.
“Habs trolling Bill Guerin is absolute cinema,” a fourth commented.
