Alexander Ovechkin reached 900 goals
Last night, Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to reach 900 regular-season goals in the Washington Capitals’ 6–1 win over the St. Louis Blues. But before the game, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was interviewed about his long-time rival.
Sidney Crosby on Ovechkin
The Capitals face the Penguins in Pittsburgh tonight, and during a media session yesterday, one reporter said to Crosby:
“It seems inevitable Ovi will hit 900 tomorrow. Maybe tonight. I know you guys don’t want it to be tomorrow. Sorry about that,” the reporter said, making the room laugh.
Crosby responded with a perfectly dry, hilarious line:
“Well, he scores a lot, so…”
He then spoke openly about his admiration for Ovechkin.
“He’s continued to find ways, year after year, to be that consistent and that productive. It’s pretty hard to even fathom — it’s a credit to him,” Crosby said.
