Paul Maurice has hilarious response after Sam Bennett goal

Sam Bennett is having a great playoff run with his Florida Panthers. He has scored 14 goals and six assists in 20 games, and last night he scored again in the Panthers’ 6-1 victory. Right after the goal, during a bench interview in the second period, Panthers coach Paul Maurice had some hilarious words about Bennett.

Game three of the Stanley Cup Final saw the Panthers take a 2-1 lead in the series after a solid 6-1 win. But it was a very physical game, with both teams hitting hard and trying to get in the occasional cheap shot where they could. The game featured 140 penalty minutes—the most in a Final game since 1986, between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames.

Great shift

The Panthers led the game from the first minute, with Brad Marchand scoring after just 56 seconds. In the second period, Sam Bennett scored the 4-1 goal after a great shift, during which he also managed to land a few big hits before scoring his fourth goal of the series. Right after the goal, Paul Maurice was interviewed on the bench about Bennett’s big shift, and he just couldn’t help himself.

Paul Maurice on Sam Bennett

Paul Maurice is a known joker who loves to draw a laugh from reporters, and he didn’t make an exception last night. After praising Bennett’s shift and style of play, the reporter noted that Bennett’s agent probably won’t have to work very hard this summer to get him a new contract.
“Oh, he’s got a horrible attitude. I think he’s got bubonic plague, dengue fever—he’s got a whole bunch of things. We’re not sure he can be cured,” Maurice jokingly told the reporter.
Game four will be played on Thursday in Florida.
