Game one of the Eastern Conference Final had everything you want out of an NHL playoff game: physicality, heated emotions, and a lot of good hockey. One incident, in particular, became the main talking point after the game, when Shayne Gostisbehere and Brad Marchand got into a fight in the third period. After the game, reporters asked Panthers coach Paul Maurice about the incident — and his response has hockey fans laughing.
The first game of the Eastern Conference Final was a true playoff battle, ticking all the boxes hockey fans love to see: big hits, some cheap shots, goals — and a fight.
Gostisbehere fights Brad Marchand
In the third period, Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere retaliated after a big hit from Panthers forward Brad Marchand by shooting the puck at him. Marchand didn’t take kindly to it and dropped the gloves. He was given a major penalty and was tossed from the game.
Paul Maurice funny answer
Afterward, reporters and fans were eager to hear what the other players and coaches thought about Gostisbehere’s shot at Marchand and — of course — Marchand’s response. But no one wanted to comment. Not even Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice, whose answer left reporters and fans in stitches.
“What was your impression of the Gostisbehere situation that led to Brad getting the ten-minute misconduct?” a reporter asked.
“Yeah, I’ve got one — I’ll be keeping that to myself,” Maurice replied.
Game two will be played on Thursday in Carolina. You can watch the video below.
