Tom Wilson just can’t help himself. He always plays on the edge and is constantly trying to get under his opponents’ skin. On Monday, he was back at it—and although the Washington Capitals lost Game 4 to the Carolina Hurricanes, Wilson had everyone laughing with a hilarious mockery of his opponents, right in front of their bench.
Wilson is a great hockey player and a key figure on the Capitals’ roster. But more than anything, he’s known for his tough playing style and in-your-face attitude. This postseason has been no different. Just two weeks ago, he had a viral moment when he taunted the Montreal Canadiens with a crybaby gesture.
Since then, he’s shown no signs of slowing down when it comes to producing laugh-out-loud moments—often at the expense of his opponents. In Game 4 of the Capitals’ second-round series against the Hurricanes, Wilson was back to his usual shenanigans and on-ice antics.
Tom Wilson mocked in viral post
The Capitals forward got into a scrum with veteran Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal. After exchanging punches, the two eventually skated back toward the Capitals’ bench. But the chirping was far from over.
Wilson immediately began mocking Staal, dramatically throwing his head back in an exaggerated attempt to draw a penalty—while laughing. Seconds later, Wilson ironically performed the Hurricanes’ infamous Storm Surge celebration, where players clap in a circle at center ice to celebrate a win.
Videos of Wilson doing the Storm Surge quickly went viral, with fans finding it both hilarious and unexpected. But the Hurricanes got the last laugh—not just because they won 5–2 to take a 3–1 series lead, but also because they trolled Wilson on social media, posting a clip of the moment.
“Bro knew the game was over so early he did the surge in the 2nd period,” they wrote.
