McQuaid uses Zadorov’s face as a punching bag in heavyweight fight

Hockey fights have been a long-standing tradition of the sport. Over the last couple of years, fighting has become taboo. Still, it’s always nice to see teammates stick up for one another and try to gain momentum for their respective clubs.

With Colorado leading the Boston Bruins 3-1 in the latter half of the second period, Adam McQuaid took it upon himself to rally his troops up. His opponent? 22-year-old Nikita Zadorov.

McQuaid has been in numerous fights over the course of his career. He tallied 12 fights during the 2010-2011 season and has been no stranger to throwing punched in the AHL or junior hockey. Zadorov only had 5 NHL fights coming into this tilt and had a brief stint fighting in the AHL and OHL.

The tale of the tape showed Zadorov (6’5”, 230lbs) have the advantage over McQuaid (6’4”, 213lbs) but McQuaid would get the better of the young defenseman, showering him with left jabs to the face.

Zadorov proved to be no match for McQuaid, as the Boston defenceman used his opponent’s face as a punching bag.
Credit is due to Zadorov for stepping up to the challenge, but it was clear McQuaid was in a whole other fight class.
By the end of the night, Colorado would double up on Boston 6-3.
