Leon Draisaitl draws ”the funniest penalty of the season”

Leon Draisaitl extended his point streak to 13 games on Thursday—but he also went viral for a completely different reason. Fans couldn’t stop laughing at how he drew a penalty, with many calling it the funniest penalty call of the season.

Leon Draisaitl is having a great season with the Edmonton Oilers. He’s widely recognized as one of the best players in the NHL, and alongside Connor McDavid, he leads the Oilers’ offensive attack. At the moment, Draisaitl has 15 more points than McDavid this season, and he’s playing some incredible hockey. On Thursday, he extended his point streak to 13 games, recording 11 goals and nine assists over that span.

In Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, the German superstar put the Oilers ahead 2-1 with a goal in the second period and also assisted Evan Bouchard’s game-winner in overtime. But Leon Draisaitl’s most talked-about moment came when he drew a penalty in hilarious fashion—one that quickly went viral on social media.

Leon Draisaitl’s hilarious incident

While controlling the puck in the offensive zone, Draisaitl tried to shake off Brendan Gallagher, who was attempting to strip it away. Suddenly, Draisaitl grabbed Gallagher’s stick and swung it up into his own face. The officials immediately called a penalty, sending Gallagher to the box for high-sticking.

However, replays made it obvious that Draisaitl had caused the high stick himself, leading many on social media to call it the funniest penalty of the season.
“Okay, but that’s actually kind of hilarious. Drai knew Gallagher wasn’t getting the benefit of the doubt,” one fan said.
“Gotta be the funniest penalty of the season,” another wrote.
“Tries to grab it twice. Just missed the first time,” a third added.
