Jared Bednar under fire for press conference remarks after Game 3 loss

The Colorado Avalanche’s heartbreaking loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday left Avalanche fans speechless. Now, they are calling out head coach Jared Bednar for his lack of frustration at the postgame press conference.

Going into the Western Conference Finals, the Colorado Avalanche were big favorites. In fact, they had won the Presidents’ Trophy with 121 points and, prior to that, had gone 8–1 in their first two playoff rounds.

Colorado Avalanche down 3-0

But after Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Avalanche are now just one loss from being eliminated. On Sunday, they took a 3–0 lead in the first period, with goals from team captain Gabriel Landeskog, Nazem Kadri, and Jack Drury. But in the two periods that followed, they collapsed, conceding five unanswered goals and losing the game.

Jared Bednar press conference

After the game, head coach Jared Bednar met with reporters. When asked about what went wrong from the second period onward, Bednar had one short answer:
“Everything.”
Bednar was then asked about the emotions in the group and what the current feeling was, being down 3–0:
“It’s low. It’s as low as it can get. You’ve got a big hill to climb, and that’s what the next 24–36 hours are for. You’ve got to find a way to get over it, regroup, and go again,” Bednar told reporters.
But fans aren’t having it.

Bednar called out by fans

Online, however, fans are now mocking Jared Bednar, criticizing his lack of emotion and his brief, unconvincing answers about what happened to the team.
“Has no answers for anything. No idea what happened. Fire him,” one fan wrote on X.
“Everyone is tired of the lifeless, monotone message,” another fan wrote.
“Does he not realize that falls on him to change it? Fire him tonight,” a third wrote.
“I don’t understand how you have one of the greatest teams of all time and don’t win the Cup. Like, there is no way the power play is bad, the defense is now mid, and the goaltending isn’t there,” a fourth wrote.

Game 4 will be played on Tuesday.
