Detroit Red Wings games move to Detroit SportsNet this season, the Ilitch-owned network that launched with the Tigers in March. Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond are still calling them. What changes is where you find the channel and how you stream it.
What channel is Detroit SportsNet on?
Comcast/Xfinity channel 1253, Charter/Spectrum 213 across most of Michigan, DIRECTV 663, and Fubo. Spectrum subscribers in Livonia are on 291, and the Spectrum app carries it on 436. It is not available over the air.
How do I stream it, and what does it cost?
Through the MLB App, which is where Detroit SportsNet delivers its in-market stream — there is no separate branded app. It costs $19.99 a month, or $189.99 a year. The annual plan is only sold to fans who are in-market for both the Red Wings and the Tigers, and it auto-renews on 1 April.
Am I in-market?
Eligibility is set by your billing postcode against the clubs’ home television territories: Michigan, plus adjacent parts of Ohio and Indiana. There are no local blackouts inside that territory, though national exclusivities still apply. Outside it you need NHL Power Play through ESPN, or Center Ice on DIRECTV.
Who calls the games?
Ken Daniels on play-by-play and Mickey Redmond on colour, both confirmed. The rinkside and studio line-up for this season has not been announced. Radio stays on 97.1 The Ticket, with overflow games on WWJ 950.
What changed from last season?
FanDuel Sports Network Detroit is gone. If you were paying for the FanDuel app, that subscription ends and you now either pick the channel up in your television package on a new number, or buy the in-market stream inside the MLB App. Same two voices, different channel, different app, similar money.
How often are the Detroit Red Wings on national television?
Seventeen times — seven on TNT, four on ESPN, one on ABC and five streaming on ESPN+, Hulu or Disney+. They open the season at home to the Rangers on Friday 2 October, on TNT, which is both the season opener and the home opener.
