What is Gigi Marvin doing now?

NESN announced her as a studio analyst in January 2025, and she made her debut there that same month. She was named one of the rotating Bruins studio analysts in NESN’s schedule announcement for 2025-26, and she worked as the game analyst on Boston Fleet broadcasts in the PWHL in April 2026.

NESN has not announced her role for 2026-27. NESN’s own Bruins release of 24 September 2026 lists four rotating studio analysts, and she is not among them, which is not the same thing as a departure, because no PWHL broadcast crews for the coming season had been published when this page was written. She also teaches at RinkRat 19, the hockey school in Warroad she co-founded with her aunt in 2008. The channels for Boston games are in our guide to how to watch the Boston Bruins.

At the University of Minnesota she scored 195 points in 152 games and was co-captain and team MVP in her final season. She was versatile enough that sources disagree about her position: USA Hockey had her playing both defense and forward; The Hockey News wrote that she spent most of her career on defense and was voted the NWHL’s best defender in 2015-16, while the databases list her as a forward. She played both.

How many Olympic medals does Gigi Marvin have?

Three, at three consecutive Games. The United States lost the 2010 final in Vancouver to Canada 2-0 on 25 February, lost the 2014 final in Sochi 3-2 in overtime on 20 February, and won in PyeongChang on 22 February 2018, 3-2 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw. Olympedia’s record has all three.

Gigi Marvin scored in the shootout that decided the 2018 final. She also won five world championship golds, in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2017, and two silvers, in 2007 and 2012. The 2017 gold came weeks after she and her teammates announced they would not play the tournament unless USA Hockey improved pay and support for the women’s programme. USA Hockey settled before the opening game, and the team played and won.

Minnesota Monthly reports that she is, and that the connection runs through her great-grandfather. Its profile of her says her great-grandfather founded the window and door company that still carries the family name in Warroad, and that her grandfather opted out of the family business for hockey instead. The company’s own history page confirms that a George Marvin founded it in Warroad in 1912 but does not name her grandfather, so the link is worth attributing rather than stating flatly.

Who was Cal Marvin?

Her grandfather, and the man who built hockey in Warroad. Cal Marvin founded the Warroad Lakers in 1946 and ran the senior club for roughly half a century, helped establish the hockey program at the University of North Dakota, and drove the construction of the town’s Memorial Arena in 1949. He coached the United States national team in 1958 and managed it in 1965, and he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.

Her father Mike Marvin played college hockey at Brown and coached her in youth hockey. Her mother Connie was a French teacher, and her brother Aaron played at St. Cloud State. Minnesota Hockey describes her as the first female Olympian from Warroad.

When did Gigi Marvin retire?

Twice, and the two dates get mixed up. She retired from international hockey on 16 December 2021, and from the sport entirely on 7 October 2024, at 37, having signed a one-day contract with Boston so the ending would be on the record. The University of Minnesota announced it the same day.

She had already been on television for three years by then, so the retirement did not start the second career. It ended the overlap. Her work on the Wild’s studio show was part of a broadcast that won an Upper Midwest regional Emmy in 2022, with Marvin credited as analyst.
