Peter Forsberg is one of the greatest hockey players of all time. But who does he consider the best teammate he’s ever played with? He recently answered that question — with a massive tribute to Nicklas Lidstrom and the late Claude Lemieux.
Being part of the Triple Gold Club — winning World Championship gold, Olympic gold, and the Stanley Cup — is something every hockey player dreams of, and very few ever pull it off. Forsberg had already done it by age 22, and he’s done it twice over. That says everything about the Swedish icon’s greatness.
Peter Forsberg’s best teammate
Even years after retiring, he’s still regarded as one of the best and most underrated players in NHL history. At his healthiest, few could contain his combination of strength, toughness, and offensive skill, and his 885 points in 708 NHL games still stack up with some of the best point-per-game rates the league has ever seen.

Injuries limited his career, but Forsberg still got to share the ice with some of the greatest players in hockey history. Appearing on the podcast Puck Around and Pod Out, he was asked if any of his teammates stood out as being on a different level from everyone else. He didn’t hesitate to bring up the late Claude Lemieux.
“I think Claude Lemieux won four Stanley Cups — that’s special,” Forsberg said.
But Forsberg was just as quick to mention Lidström, widely regarded as the greatest Swedish hockey player of all time.
“You have to mention Lidström, considering how much he won. And then there’s Fetisov and Larionov, who also won two of everything. I was really lucky to play with such incredible players,” he said.
