Alexander Karmanov mocked during development camp

Alexander Karmanov is currently at development camp with the San Jose Sharks. However, footage from the camp now has fans online mocking Karmanov for his skating.

Selected 201st overall in the seventh round by the San Jose Sharks in the 2026 NHL draft, Alexander Karmanov made NHL history. Standing 7’1″, he is the tallest player ever to be drafted by an NHL team. He is also the first Moldovan-born player ever to be drafted.

Alexander Karmanov height and weight

Alexander Karmanov makes an impression wherever he goes. His height and massive frame—he weighs 271 pounds—make sure of that. As a player, Karmanov, of course, plays a physical game. That is a skill that could be well needed on a very talented, but not particularly heavy, San Jose Sharks roster. For the 2026-2027 season, however, Karmanov is expected to play college hockey for the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Mocked by fans online

Meanwhile, Alexander Karmanov’s exceptional size requires a custom-made stick measuring 70 inches long. He is currently attending development camp alongside the rest of the Sharks’ top prospects, including second overall pick Ivar Stenberg. However, fans online are now mocking Karmanov for his skating.
“Slow, slower and slowest,” one fan wrote on X.
“No lol that is horrific skating sincerely,” another wrote.
“I’d have this guy in every possible skating camp of all time,” a third fan wrote.
