Rod Brind’Amour Stanley Cup celebration
Then, two decades later, on June 15, Brind’Amour once again brought the Stanley Cup to Carolina. This time, however, he did so as the team’s head coach. After celebrating in Vegas, the Hurricanes returned home to a massive parade in Raleigh. Notably, fans from all walks of life came together to celebrate the championship.
In fact, this was something Brind’Amour specifically addressed when he spoke before the North Carolina General Assembly. Lawmakers are currently working to pass an overdue state budget and are searching for ways to find common ground.

Heartfelt speech
“What I witnessed on Saturday at the parade was something very, very special. People that wouldn’t normally talk to each other were — State fans and Carolina fans and Duke fans and whoever else’s fans, coming together and supporting our team,” Brind’Amour told the state House of Representatives.
Furthermore, Brind’Amour continued by emphasizing the importance of unity and teamwork.
“That’s the one thing that our team can do is we can unify. You got people on this side, people on that side, but it’s amazing when I talk about what a team can do — when people can work together, what can actually be accomplished. There’s no greater team that’s ever won the Stanley Cup than what these guys were doing, because they were what a team is all about,” Brind’Amour said.
Praised by lawmakers
As a result, Brind’Amour’s speech resonated strongly with lawmakers, who were quick to praise his remarks.
“What you have taught and shown to our children and the people of this state, what it means to have teamwork and to fight for your dreams — as the father of a young son, he has fallen in love with hockey watching the Carolina Hurricanes this season,” Sen. Michael Garrett said, according to NC Newsline.
Meanwhile, several other lawmakers also applauded Brind’Amour’s message about unity and working together.
