Brandon Bussi’s first win

Frederik Andersen had started the Hurricanes’ first 16 postseason games. But after allowing four goals on 16 shots in Game 3, Andersen was made a healthy scratch for Game 4. Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour instead turned to Bussi, with Pyotr Kochetkov serving as the backup goaltender.
“Freddie needs a little break. OK, so we went with the other guy. If you’re going to give him a break, you need to give him a break. To me, him dressing and going through all that isn’t really giving him a night off. That’s it,” Brind’Amour explained.

Perfect reaction

The decision paid off, as Carolina evened the series at 2-2 heading back to Raleigh for Game 5 on Thursday.
Bussi had his fiancée, Mary, and his parents, Rob and Lisa, in attendance for Game 4. After his milestone victory, he was asked what it meant to have his parents in the building for such a special night. Bussi couldn’t help but tear up.
“That’s pretty special. They’re the reason I’m able to do what I’m doing right now. Their sacrifice means everything. And yeah, they’re the best. It means a lot. I can’t believe you guys just did that to me on TV,” Bussi said, making the reporter laugh.
