Finnish announcers’ reaction to Finland’s Golden Goal

Konsta Helenius’ overtime winner against Switzerland secured Team Finland’s fifth World Championship gold. Now, the Finnish TV announcers are going viral for their hilarious reaction to the game-winning goal.

After three periods without a goal, it was Konsta Helenius, the 20-year-old forward, who decided the 2026 World Championship with a beautiful solo goal.

Team Finland’s fifth gold

The Buffalo Sabres forward was highly praised for the goal after the game. The gold medal is Team Finland’s fifth overall, with previous wins in 1995, 2011, 2019, and 2022.
“I’ve always dreamt of scoring a goal like this, and now I have,” Helenius told reporters after the game.
Even though it was “only” four years ago that Team Finland last won gold at the World Championship, the Finnish TV announcers went absolutely wild when Helenius scored.

Hilarious announcers

They screamed and screamed and are now going viral among hockey fans. Fans absolutely love the passion the announcers are showing and also joke that this is one of the few times Finnish people show their emotions.
“Every single time I hear a Finnish or European call, they are so excited. Love it,” one fan wrote on X.
“He said at one point, ‘Oh god, I’m losing my mind, I must sit down,’” a Finnish fan translated.
“Haha, the only time Finns show some passion,” a third one wrote.
