Jakub Dobes takes jab at Sabres fans after OT win

The Montreal Canadiens won Game 7 against the Buffalo Sabres. Afterward, Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes took a jab at the Sabres and their fans. Now, fans are calling Dobes out for what he said.

In the most dramatic second-round series of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs, the Sabres and the Canadiens clashed in a thrilling Game 7 on Monday.

Canadiens overtime win

The Canadiens took a 2–0 lead, but the Sabres fought back with goals from Jordan Greenway and Rasmus Dahlin. The game went into overtime, and 11 minutes into the extra period, Alex Newhook scored the game-winner. The Canadiens will now face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final. Game 1 will be played in Carolina on May 21.

Jakub Dobes jab at Sabres

One of the Canadiens’ heroes was goaltender Jakub Dobes. He made 37 saves and posted a .949 save percentage. When speaking to reporters after the game, he couldn’t help himself from taking a jab at the Sabres and their fans.
“I was just doing my job. Their fans like to chant my name, I like that, too. So thanks for that. That was giving me fire. I like when you’re the villain,” Dobes told reporters after the game.

Fans are not happy

Now, Sabres fans are very upset with Dobes’ comments and are calling him out online.
“Carolina is gonna really humble this kid. Great goalie, but he comes off as a douche,” one fan wrote on X.
“Biggest cornball in the league,” another wrote.
“This dude is insufferable. Go cry to the refs some more,” a third fan wrote.
