Sidney Crosby is representing Team Canada at the 2026 World Championship, and footage from their game against Italy is now going viral. The clip shows Crosby unloading on a referee for not calling penalties against Italy.
While Crosby is not captaining Team Canada at the 2026 World Championship, he is still considered the team’s unofficial leader, both in the locker room and on the ice.

Sidney Crosby alternate captain
The C was given to Macklin Celebrini, while Crosby is wearing an A on his jersey for the tournament.
“We named Mack captain before Sid agreed to participate. When Sid came, he was adamant that Mack remain the captain. At the same time, Mack was adamant that Sid be the captain,” general manager Brad Treliving said about the captaincy situation.
Speaking to officials
Regardless of who wears the C, the more experienced Crosby is widely considered the team’s leader, both on and off the ice. Team Canada has opened the tournament with victories over Sweden and Italy. During the 6–0 win over Italy, Crosby was caught on mic arguing with an official. Even though he remained calm during the exchange, fans are now praising his competitive spirit despite the comfortable scoreline.
“The shots are 23–7, we have three penalties and they have one,” Crosby was heard saying to the referee.
“Close up and personal with Cap’n Canada himself. Can’t help himself!” one fan wrote on Reddit.
“I think once Sid came, and since it was too late to change him to the C, by wearing the A it’s understood he’s the captain,” another fan wrote.
Next up, Team Canada will face Denmark.
